Home or Office Private Yoga & Yoga Therapy

elderly-womanPrivate therapy sessions are conducted in client’s home or office to precipitate a comfortable environment for healing and continued practice. Online video chat sessions are also available. The initial consultation is needed to understand your needs,  specific challenges and the outcome you want.

I work out a course of treatment of three, five or seven sessions. Afterwards, we re-evaluate your needs together to either continue on a weekly basis or for home practice on your own.

Unless a recent injury or accident, most complaints and challenges develop over time, even years; one session is less efficient.

 

Consult & Therapy

  • Intake Form: Please fill out the intake form before booking a consult.
  • Consult: Going over the intake form in person, client’s health history, current treatments and medications, current physical, mental and emotional condition and student’s health and wellness goals.
  • Client’s may ask questions and get clarification as the consult is usually about 45 to 60 minutes.
  • A course of treatment is suggested in 3, 5, or 7 sessions. Clients are encouraged throughout the treatments to check with Cilica with any questions, concerns or personal feedback. As you heal, your needs will change and revisions may be necessary to your treatment and personal practice.
  • Yoga Practice: Each session is tailored to suit the client’s specific needs, capabilities, goals, and life circumstances. Clients are taught this personal practice.
  • To take Home: Clients are given a sequence and exercises to do at home.

Passive Sessions

  • Using yoga therapy techniques, massage, healing, and energy/trigger points and breathe to manipulate the client while the client is in a relaxed, non-active manner: sitting, laying or standing. The client accepts the movements without any effort.
  • This is an excellent way to deal with extreme stress, emotional challenges, anxiety, depression and major illnesses or injuries where mobility is extremely painful.

Touch Therapy

  • Passive sessions are fabulous for healing and movement through touch not only stretches clients deeply, it triggers a natural healing effect that works faster and viscerally.

Flexibility and Mobility

  • In these passive sessions, clients increase mobility and flexibility in a deeper manner than on their own. Similar to a massage, the masseuse is able to go into areas of the body that are difficult for the client to reach or know they need attending to.
  • When stretching and shortening the muscles, joints and organs, I believe create a balance by using smaller more detailed movements. These are best done while clients are passive until they understand and internalise the movement themselves.

Pro-Active Sessions

  • Here the client is more mobile, and challenges are less acute where moving on their own is easier.
  • Often more advanced techniques are used

 

Flexibility and Mobility

  • In pro-active sessions clients increase mobility and flexibility in a deep and learn specifically how to improve and increase flexibility, mobility. Small to large adjustments are given for alignment and stability.

 

Yoga Sessions

  • By the mere practice of yoga we are healing and keeping healthy which means if you want to develop a personal practice or deepen your regular yoga practice, private sessions can help.
  • We can work on sequencing, specific yogasanas, inversions, balances meditation and philosophies.
  • Clients are welcome to increase their awareness and abilities ~ whatever they wish.

 

Home Practice – Personal Practice

    • In all sessions clients are shown how to practice a sequence of asanas, pranayama (breathing) and mindfulness/meditation to practice at home.

Developing Yourself

    • On the mat is your time to free yourself from life’s obligations to balance and rejuvenate your natural self.
    • Your intent may have as many folds as there are flowers – taking from all eight limbs of yoga.
    • A personal practice is a great way to enhance yoga therapy sessions and yoga classes.
    • The traditional approach to attending yoga class was to develop a daily personal practice.
    • Deepen an existing Yoga Practice by developing new techniques, asanas, meditations, and balance.

Cancellation Policy

All fees are paid in advance and can be booked at the same time.

Cilica knows clients are dedicated, and sometimes missing appointments is unavoidable.

  • No-fault cancellation: If you cancel your session one week in advance, there will be no charge for the session. Due to my own teaching schedule, occasionally I may have to reschedule a session. If an alternate time cannot be found, there will be no charge for the session.
  • Short-notice Cancellation: If you must cancel the week of your session, I will make every effort to reschedule that session. If an alternate time cannot be found, full payment for that session is still required.
  • No Show: If you do not show up for your session without notice, full payment for this session is required.

Yoga Mentor

Mentoring is a bridge to fine tune teaching skills as a new graduate of yoga teacher training, or as a senior teacher bringing new skills to their class. In my experience, the deep understanding of teaching and the process of how people learn is not always experienced in Yoga Teacher Trainings (as well as other types of studies generally).

Develop your yoga teaching skills in a personalised avenue for continuing your adhikara – sanskrit: being spiritually competent for spiritual study.

This consultation gives me an in-depth overview and specific of your proposed or establishes business, your experience and your dreams. Dreams are important; often without them many people would not succeed. Here clients learn what is possible, where they need additional help for a new staff, what research to do, time frames, business information and more. Suggestion on what to bring: questions, your notes, business plan (if you have one), items to clarify along with any documents you have such as proposed business names, financials – general, information on possible employees, or hired staff, management, rental agreements or proposed business space, and more. Really whatever you need help with this is your time. Results of the Initial Consultation: Clarity, direction, acknowledgement, to do list, honest feedback, where to go next, support.

  • Once we have completed the initial consultation we will establish when the following two consultation sessions should be booked. This is completed in one month, being each session a week or bi-week.
  • The time between sessions allows you to complete any steps, research and time to think about your next tasks.

I meet with clients either in person or through Video Chat at prearranged times. I am available most days except Tuesdays. While people come to me for expert advice, I find working collaboratively gains the client the best results. My first priority is discerning the client’s needs, wants, experience and concerns. We set up an agenda and work from it, revising and adding when necessary. From the Initial Consult to the final phases, clients are given copies of my consulting notes, and leave with a to-do list for the next meeting, or to do on their own.

Heal the pain of Asthma

This workshop is about reducing and approaching your Asthma in different yoga therapy methods that lead to less dependency on drugs and inhalers for better overall health.

Asthma is the restriction of breathing to which the person is unable to gain proper breath and my lead to fainting, anxiety attacks or worse. Restrictions may be caused by underdeveloped lungs, diaphragm and organs, by pollution and or viruses. Asthma can begin in childhood, or later as an adult for many reasons.

What Participants Gain: In learning deep breathing, calmness, exercises and movement techniques asthma suffer will be able to manage attacks better, have more clarity, ease of thinking (with less going into panic mode) and lessen the severity and frequency of their asthma attacks. These techniques are excellent for the occasional, seasonal, bacterial or chronic asthma sufferers.

Breath: Participants learn how to develop and strengthen their breathing / repertory system in an easy, efficient way through gentle deep breathing to more strengthening breathing techniques to strengthen lung efficiency, passageways and diaphragm. A healthier breath in balance with the whole body, the participant can soften attacks and lessen the pain, severity and occurrences of asthma onset and/or full attack.

Calming Movements: We work on yoga exercises to open the chest and ribcage, expand lung capacity and release discomfort, tension and/or pain in the neck and shoulders which often occur with an attack. As important as increasing the breath, creating space for the breath to move into in the body is necessary.

Taught are gentle and mindful ways to move, stretch and strengthen the body’s respiratory system. These exercises also precipitate a clear, thoughtful mind to combat the instinctive mode of alarm when we cannot breathe properly.

Moving away from Anxiety

People for many reasons are affected with anxiety for a couple ‘panic attacks’ or for years of debilitating effects. Those who experience anxiety attacks may or may not understand why they come and what situations may trigger an attack. Some of the symptoms associated are shortness of breath, stomach aches, headaches, and nausea, fatigue and chest pain. It can be a feeling of ‘goodness I’m going to die’ or ‘I am having a heart attack’. Individually each person will have one or more of these reactions commonly associated with their anxiety, having a ‘panic attack’.

Primarily the challenge with Anxiety is the emotional reaction to being short of breath or having no breath. In this workshop we use techniques that combine thoughts and body movements to diminish the onset of an anxiety attack rising into a full ‘panic attack’ and in some cases to reduce or stop the attacks manifesting.

Deep Slow Breathing : We explore how deep even breaths slow down your breathing to immediately calm and give you a feeling of control. Learn what to do when you hyperventilate, what deep breathing is and how it keeps the mind from going into fear mode. Breath control itself is a powerful tool to ease or excel anxiety; the techniques here will give you a great understanding of the effects and results on the body and mind from breathing.

Movement/Exercises : The body and mind hold onto the effects of anxiety, changing our natural chemical balance, blood and energy flow to strain and stress muscles, joints, and organs long term. In this workshop, I address the effects using gentle, specific yoga techniques to expel toxins, increase blood, energy flow and calm clear focus.

Meditation : Meditating for up to 20 minutes regularly is known to help anxiety immensely. When the mind is full of fast racing, often unnecessary or harmful thoughts the body restricts blood flow, breath quickens to begin the anxiety attack. This stress and angst can impact negatively on a person physically and mentally long term.

Participants are taught a couple of different meditation techniques to find one or a combination are best to help each regain a calm mind; clear thoughts, and help to control thoughts that may begin the anxiety.

Breath, Yoga and Meditation are known to have great results to ease, reduce and often avoid or eliminate anxiety attacks. These techniques used over time with patients and compassion; anxiety can be a thing of the past.

 

 

Retraining the Brain to 'let go' Chronic Pain

Chronic pain often caused by injury or illness is commonly known as “pain that extends beyond the expected period of healing.” It is as if the body is continuously on high, there is no low setting enabling the body and mind rest or peace. Drugs/Medicines are helpful, but many pharmaceuticals tell the brain there is no more pain. These drugs help short term but often not long term; often with side effects. Additionally, when the brain is told there is no pain, this can have people physically active damaging their body beyond the original cause.

This workshop is not about getting off your medicines; it is about managing and defusing the pain through exercises and mindfulness that can lead to less dependency on drugs or the need to increase dosages.

Continual pain in a holistic sense is when the body stores the energy in the body created by the brains reaction to the cause. This excess energy has nowhere to go but stay. Contrasting the brain is used to reacting to the causing effects of pain, it doesn’t shut off properly reacting to what is not there.

In this workshop, meditation is explored to help change the brain’s awareness of pain, and use specific exercises for muscles, tendons, nerves and anatomy that may be restricting blood flow and oxygen to create more mobility while attending to relieve pain.

Meditation : Some believe that meditation may cause acute awareness of the pain, causing even more distress and discomfort in aiding solutions to their pain. In this workshop, we will discover a balance between awareness and calming the mind by easing the direct effects of this pain. Learnt are meditation technique to concentrate the mind away from the pain, to direct the pain to heal and excess pain out of the body. Pain is energy; this energy can heal, or it can be trapped (known as chronic pain) becoming harmful.

Breath: Controlling our breath through pain is often not thought about when we hurt. One may stop or hold the breath when hurt but is a momentary solution. Learn various breathing techniques to ease your pain, while helping your health overall.

Movement : Gaining back mobility lost from chronic pain is important to encourage blood flow and oxygen throughout the body. Learn small to large movements specific to regain and maintain mobility, flexibility and strength.
